In January the Ruka-Kuusamo ski resort and the whole fell will be illuminated for the third time by Polar Night Light Festival. This light art festival lits up Ruka and Kuusamo on 18th of January, and the lightshow shall continue until February 2nd.
RUKA SKI RESORT
Ruka Ski Resort and the Ruka slopes work as the central venue for Polar Night Festival. Besides lighting up the Front Slopes and the Kuru Slope, festival organizes a collective light art event during Night Skiing on Friday 18.1., 25.1. and 1.2. at 7 PM to 11 PM. In these events the skiers have the possibility to carry a light source with them while skiing that forms a playful and lively collective art piece against the Polar night sky.
RUKA VILLAGE
Besides bringing light to Ruka’s slopes, Polar Night Light Festival does close co-operation this year with the entrepreneurs of Ruka Village. Together with the local entrepreneurs Polar Night Light Festival shuts down the neon signs of the shops and restaurants and transforms Ruka Village into a magical, atmospheric place.
KUUSAMO LANTERN PARK
This year’s Polar Night Light Festival presents the second time the local version of Lantern Park – the famous art piece done several times for LUX Helsinki light art festival. The children and youth from Kuusamo join the production to create lanterns that combined with LUX’s lanterns create a magical lantern park in Kuusamo during Polar Night Light Festival.
KUUSAMO WATER TOWER
One of the most ambitious pieces in this year’s festival program is again the Water tower of Kuusamo, that has been extremely popular during last two years and is again illuminated in a spectacular way.
