The Dragon Lights Reno Chinese Lantern Festival's five-week exhibition run June 30 to August 5, 2018, at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden. It is presented by Washoe County and the May Arboretum Society. Dragon Lights Reno is an Artown featured event.
Dragon Lights Reno is an international touring festival of exhibitions that provide a "globally-cultural entertainment experience to millions of guests around the world,"It’s a very significant lantern show.
The exhibition features 39 Chinese Lanterns.Each lantern display has been handcrafted by artisans from China who master the skill of lantern-making through an apprenticeship, and it is this group of people who keep this centuries-old tradition alive. This amalgamation of light, art and entertainment is intended to "thrill, educate and illuminate the guests."
At sundown, “Magic Hour” will occur. Each lantern will be turned on one-by-one and its history will be shared. In addition to lanterns, the event will feature cultural entertainment, nightly performances, traditional handicrafts, a time traveler photo booth and themed nights.That let visitors fully appreciate the magic of Chinese culture.
Dragon Lights Reno provides "an opportunity to explore the ancient culture of China while learning about China today."
